A lot happened on vacation. It was busy at all, it was extremely relaxing. There's definitely a lot that I've pulled away from it. For starters, here are my top 5 moments. There's plenty more than this...but these are the things that stand out in my mind right now!
5. Spending an entire afternoon just laying in the sun reading.
4. Reading a book cover to cover in one week! Hasn’t happened for a while!!!
3. Hiking trails, building campfires, biking on the hills, playing games every night!
2. Canoe trip w/ the fam. Hilarious story: So, I shared a canoe with my mom & my lil sis was with my dad. The trip was about 7.5 miles and could take anywhere from 2-4 hours. We decided to take our time with it...so we were out for almost the full 4 hours. Anyway, we’re pulling in our canoes at the end of the trip and I was at the bow. So naturally, I got out of the canoe & began pulling it onto the rocks so it would be steady enough for my mom to get out. However, she decides to stand up before the canoe is secure. Immediately, she realized this was a bad idea & tried to steady herself. But she overcompensated, looked at me with this sort of helpless face, & flipped right out of the canoe!!! I was DYING LAUGHING!!! The bank actually takes a bit of a dip where we pulled in, so it was shallow right at the rocks but then immediately drops down about 3 feet. I couldn’t help but just stand there and laugh!!! Now you all know where I get it from!!!
1. Spending extended time alone with family and extended time alone with God.
More to come...

Car Rides with my Dad
So, I've talked about my mom on here and how great she is, but I don't think I've ever mentioned my dad! What was I thinking?!
So...
Yesterday, my dad and I were driving up to Bremen to visit with my grandma. Sometimes our rides are kind of quiet (especially on a Sunday afternoon when we're tired...and probably shouldn't have been driving)! But this ride was different. We just started talking about life and all that's been going on. Then we started reminiscing about things. My dad shared with me memories of his dad and stories of what he admired most about him. And well...it just got me thinking about the things I admire in my dad.
My dad has got to be one of the most spiritually sensitive guys I know. He could give you story after story of God's faithfulness in his life and recounts many of them with tear-filled eyes because of how He's seen God move.
My dad is a faithful prayer warrior. Growing up I remember finding my dad out in the living room early in the morning kneeling down praying. Every day he would pray for me, my sisters, and my mom. Every situation that I faced, my dad was praying. Every time I was away from home, my dad was praying. Anytime I ask him to specifically be in prayer about something, I know that he will!
My dad loves God's Word. Growing up, I also remember finding my dad out at the dining room table just studying the Word. In our family prayer times, he would often pray scripture. He's constantly soaking it in...and not simply reading it for the sake of reading it. He encourages me with scripture almost every time I see him! Seeing his relationship with Christ lived out has spoken more to me than anything he's ever verbally told me about it.
My dad is incredibly gifted! He's an engineer, so putting things together & taking things apart is something he loves. He loves to build things...which is where I get it from. Even when I was little, I can remember my dad letting me help him in the shop or build stuff out of his scrap wood. Every once in a while, we still work on projects together. I'm convinced that he can fix or build just about anything!
My dad leads by example. He doesn't preach at you...he shows you. He's had many opportunities to share with the guys he works with about his faith because they see a difference in him...they ask him what's different! He recognizes the importance of living out the same faith every single day...not just on Sunday or Wednesday.
There's so many things I love and admire about my dad. I'm so thankful for him and thankful for all that he has taught me. He's not perfect, but I'm confident I couldn't have asked for a better earthly father.

Greatest Mom Ever!
Okay, so I know that many of you are immediately thinking that you have the greatest mom in the world. And I don't doubt that you have an amazing mom...BUT...let me just take a sec to let you know why my mom wins!
This past week was incredibly busy. There's a lot to get done and 24 hours just seems to go by really quickly! It's been a little exhausting, and so the cleaning that I've been wanting to get done at my apartment got put on hold simply because I was either too tired to move by the time I got home or I didn't have enough time!
So...Thursday was Valentine's Day. Usually not a big deal day for me except for getting together with my parents. But this Valentine's Day, I didn't get home until about 8:30 p.m. As I walked in the door, I found a little box of Dove chocolates on my stairs with a little note from my mom. It was something so simple, but I got so excited about it!
Then...I went upstairs to my kitchen and as I looked around, I noticed that something was different. All my dishes were done. The trash had been taken out. And everything was straightened up. On the counter was another little note from my mom that simply said, "Love you!" I immediately started crying...1)because I was tired and couldn't help it and 2)because I couldn't believe what my mom had done for me! She always seems to know exactly what I need and when I need it!
I love her for a lot more reasons than her cleaning up my apartment for me! But this Valentine's Day was just another reminder of how blessed I am to have the family that I have!
