You See Ashes But I See Beauty

Walking into a dark, cold room with a bed and red light illuminating from the window,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Sitting and listening to a story I can’t begin to ever fathom for myself,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Overwhelmed by a life caught in darkness, emptiness, and despair,
And still He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Tears filling my eyes and threatening to spill over as she looks me in the eyes and just smiles,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Walking back out into a darkness that seems blacker than before,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Red lights shining like a lighthouse welcoming those hungry for flesh,
Still He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Drunkards wondering aimlessly down the street, whistling and jeering,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Watching the trucks pull in by the dozen, filling every available empty space,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Women waiting in the shadows of the trucks,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Shadows coming through the curtains of red lit rooms,
And still He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

The empty eyes of a little boy walking through the night all alone,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Desperate cries falling on deaf ears,
Still He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Brokenness that seems impossible to fix,
And He whispers, “You see ashes but I see beauty.”

Helplessness like I’ve never seen or felt before threatens to take me,
But He whispers, “Look again, what do you see?”

And I whisper, “I see beauty coming from ashes.”
