Top 6 Family Memories of 2006

This one is a little more difficult, because there've been some great family moments! (These are in order of date, not significance)

6. Accepted to go to Southeast Asia for an internship- Why is this a great family memory? Back in January when I decided I wanted to do my internship overseas, my family fully supported that decision. They were even more supported when they heard where I wanted to go. Let's just say it wasn't on their top 10 list of places they'd love to send me...I doubt that it even would have made their top 50. But they were supportive none the less. I'm so thankful for my family! They've stood by every decision that I've made. They covered my internship in prayer & it was an incredible experience with incredible life lessons.

5. IMPACT with Beth- This is really a proud sister moment for me. I had the opportunity to go on the 2006 Dominican Republic IMPACT trip with my younger sister. (For those of you who didn't know...yes, Beth Mikel is my sister!) It was a once in a lifetime chance to see her be stretched, challenged, & grow through the experiences she faced. My proudest moment happened during our debriefing when we were all sitting together sharing our highlights from the trip & what we felt God had taught us. My sister was the last to share & I was blown away not only by what she said, but how she said it. For those of you who know her, she's incredibly quiet...well, around you, not me! Her voice tends to shake a little when she's put on the spot & she gets nervous. But in that moment, I've never heard her talk with such confidence! God used that trip to start something new in her. And I was proud & thankful to be able to see it firsthand!

4. Camping in Kentucky- For some of you, that may sound like one of the last things you would want to do, but for my family, it's a tradition. (Not the Kentucky part). Every year, we always go camping together. We're definitely an outdoors family. I love camping! We've been doing it forever!!! The earliest trip I remember is when I was 4. Anyway, it was just a great time to get away from the busyness of life & just spend time relaxing & having fun as a family! Priceless!!!

3. Shelby- Shelby is my 10 year old cousin. She's absolutely beautiful! Seriously, if you saw her smile...you would just melt! Well, this September was a significant time for her because Shelby decided that she wanted to ask Jesus into her heart! Not only that, but she wants to keep learning more about Jesus so that she can tell all her friends about how much He loves them! Yet another great family moment!!!

2. Thanksgiving- I love this holiday because I get to see the majority of my family! Every year we sit around the table & share what we're thankful for, and every year I become more & more thankful for the family that I have been blessed with! My family is far from perfect & we've all done our share of annoying things. I've had my share of fights with my parents & both my sisters, & we still disagree on things. But I'm so thankful to be a part of a family that I know loves each other. We just love to be together! My family has always looked out for each other! They've always supported me, prayed for me, loved me...they know how to make me laugh...they know what makes me smile! They're hilarious!!! And to me, Thanksgiving is a time for me to sit around that table & realize more & more how truly blessed I am!

1. Christmas Time- I know this is kind of cheating since this hasn't happened yet. But Christmas time is always a favorite family memory for me! Much like Thanksgiving, it's more time for me to get together with all my family & just enjoy being there with them. A recent tradition in our home is putting on the Christmas music, decorating the tree & house, & then closing out the night with hot chocolate & the movie White Christmas. But more than all that, I just love celebrating the real meaning of Christmas with the people I love most!

So there you have it, my top family memories! There's plenty more...but this post is already pretty long! So, here's to looking forward to another incredible year filled with more incredible memories!
